It’s beetle Saturday!

“If there is a creator he certainly has an inordinate fondness for beetles and stars.” -JBS Haldane.

Of the approximately 1 million species of insect identified thus far, over 1/3 of them are beetles. Beetles represent the largest order of living organisms on earth, with well over 350,000 species described so far (that’s more than all species in the entire plant kingdom!). Within that group the Atlas Beetle (Chalcosoma atlas) is one of the largest. Native to Southeast Asia, the atlas beetle is particularly impressive with its iridescent green/black elytra (wing covers) and the three prominent horns protruding from the head and thorax of the larger males. The three specimens we have currently in the shop have been preserved in museum quality shadow boxes and professionally displayed to show their many unique qualities including size, horns, iridescence and wing span. Get down to the shop today and mention this ad for a 10% discount on all things beetle! #oddities#curiosities#insect#beetle#cabinetofcuriosities#curios#shadowbox
